Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Legal Officer to provide legal support across the Bank’s operations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating legal risks, reviewing contractual obligations, and providing sound legal advice to support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advisory services to business units and internal stakeholders.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and vet contracts, agreements, and other legal documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable banking regulations, corporate governance requirements, and internal policies.
- Support litigation management, dispute resolution, and recovery processes.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks affecting business operations.
- Conduct legal research and provide opinions on emerging legal and regulatory issues.
- Liaise with external counsel, regulatory agencies, and relevant stakeholders when required.
- Monitor legal developments within the banking and financial services industry and recommend necessary actions.
Requirements
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.
- Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) qualification and membership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Experience
- 1–5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably within the banking, financial services, or corporate sector.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of banking laws, financial services regulations, and corporate governance principles.
- Excellent legal drafting, contract review, and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
