Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and strategic legal professional to join our team as Lead Counsel, Lands & Claims. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the governance, acquisition, protection, and administration of the Company’s land assets while ensuring the effective resolution of compensation, resettlement, and land-related claims.
This role plays a critical part in supporting business growth, operational continuity, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic management and governance of the Company’s land portfolio.
- Drive negotiations relating to land acquisition, leases, easements, and rights of way for corporate and expansion projects.
- Oversee the documentation, custody, and maintenance of land titles, master plans, and land registers.
- Coordinate legal due diligence activities, title verification, registry searches, and title perfection processes.
- Provide legal leadership on compensation, resettlement, and community-related land claims to ensure timely and sustainable resolution.
- Engage government agencies, regulators, host communities, and other stakeholders to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- Manage relationships with external solicitors, surveyors, valuers, and other professional service providers.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and operational risks associated with land ownership and usage.
Requirements
- Education & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)
- Barrister-at-Law (B.L)
- Call to Bar Certificate
Experience
- Minimum of 12 years post-call experience.
- At least 3 years in a similar leadership role.
- Experience within the Oil & Gas sector, energy industry, or large-scale infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated expertise in land acquisition, compensation frameworks, dispute resolution, stakeholder engagement, courtroom practice, and legal risk management.
